Big Claim: Discourses and literacy narratives correlate

  1. When the mentee becomes the mentor: In this article the main idea talks about how this person went from learning to read and write from his grandparents because his parents were to busy. Then he ends up teaching his brother to read and write. This directly correlates to identity because this was a major impact on his life when his parents were not there his grandparents were and that really shapes who a person is.
  2. Parental advisory: In this story the persons parents give them nothing but praise, this will shape someones identity more then you can believe. This will make someone into somebody who believes in themselves, and this can shape you as a person. You can imagine that with confidence also comes success. Someone who is taught to believe in themselves at a young age will believe in themselves for everything they do.
  3. Literacy narrative: This is also a child prodigy story because the person excelled as a child and then had trouble when they got into upper level courses. This relates to my big claim because they had the attitude or discourse that they could do anything when they met adversity they had trouble accepting it.
