Journal #21 filtering gee

Annotations from pages 13-17 of Gee:

“Filtering”-In this context filtering means that the different aspects of your secondary discourse begin to incorporate themselves into you primary discourse and start to have some kind of affect from this.

“transfer”- transfer in this context means letting someone practice dominant secondary discourse to promote the application of a new primary discourse.

Knowing what these terms mean could have helped early in gee to understand the paper. Which would influence us to understand more of gee. I personally think these terms should of been introduced before pg. 14 because understanding that transferring a discourse is the act of filtering. This would make me understand gee better and thus make the beginning to the end flow. Gee also talks about how acquiring a new discourse is difficult but these terms make it seem a bit easier.
