Journal # 22 “skeptics May object”

To enter a discourse is supposedly one of the hardest things you can do according to Gee and Cuddy. They claim that either the gate keepers will leave you feeling left out or just not in it at all. Entering a discourse is in my opinion can never be easy, but with the right type of attitude you can enter anything you want, no one has any advantage of opportunity in my opinion to enter a discourse any easier or better then anyone else. Basically everyone starts out equal and is given the same opportunity as anyone else. As Cuddy states that “ the less fortunate have a better opportunity at entering a discourse” I believe this is false if not the other way around the wealthy and fortunate can basically get you anywhere if we are talking about school and jobs. Within this world it is who you know and with that brings power. The more “gatekeepers” or people of that discourse you know the easier it will become to enter that discourse.

“Mushfake” a term Gee used and “power pose” a term that Cuddy uses left me interpreting that as a sort of metaphorical human chameleon a person who can form to whatever they need to. It is my belief that people can become whatever they want. It is how hard you are willing to work to achieve this. If the effort is there you can learn the “meta-knowledge” a term Gee uses to describe knowledge of other knowledge. This is where the effort is put in. You can decide to take your time and understand the grammar, the look, and basically your entire demeanor to conform to that of the new discourse. Effort and discourse are two peas in a pod.

Exercise#2- To represent the objections properly you have to first put them in the right area you have to put them in the right area first you put the opponents view, then you can rebuttal. I would rephrase my paper by putting cuddy’s argument first and then putting my argument and use gee to back my argument up.  Introduce your naysayer with the proper term. They are a professional so address them like one.
