Writing as a Recursive Process
Writing as recursive process has never been apart of my past writing strategies. In the literacy narrative paper I took the advice that was given to me, and that was to write three different first drafts of what I thought to be a literary moment in my life. At first I admit I was not enthused, but I soon learned that if I had stuck with my first there is no way my paper could have turned out like it did. My time on task in class and out of class was 80% out 90% in I work in the library when I do out of class work so 80% is a fair estimate. The Steps I took in this process was by first writing three drafts 1, 2, 3.That took us to picking our best draft and making a journal reflecting on why we chose that draft. That process lead me to making my draft into a full paper. We had in class time with peers to revise. This helped me to realize what to change in my paper. I changed a few Paragraphs to fit the story and portray it to a reader a way they could understand. I am not in mastery yet but I am on my way there
Active Reading, Critical Reading, & Informal Reading Response
In the beginning of the class I would have never thought to annotate any sort of reading, and the reason is I didn’t know how useful it could be. I started annotating basically the first assignment that we had received. I went to sasc and received more help from Jen. We have taken multiple assignments home and annotated them. I started using sticky notes, and summarizing what was going on in the page. I started to highlight cause and effect pieces in two different colors to try and understand the text better. Writing marginal comments also helps me understand the text more effectively. I believe that I am entering the second half closer to mastering of this topic.
Critique Own and Others’ Work
I have a hard time critiquing anything let alone someones english paper, but I took the advice of my SASC rep and decided that the things I was saying in my peer reviews was helping the person rather then hurting there feelings. Examples of this are my peer review. We even took steps to record ourselves in this to make sure we could evaluate later in our writing process. I took the ideas of others and integrated in my essay. Critiquing my own work is a tough process for me so I would rate myself at the halfway point. Signifying that I am not there yet but am soon to be there.
Document Work using Appropriate Conventions
In class I feel that I have not yet been able to show that I can do this process. If we were able to show this i know that I would be able to sight sources strictly because that was one thing high school taught me was how to sight. Using different formats or if it is right from the book I could put the page number and paragraph followed by the author and the title.
Control Individualized error patterns
A common error that I have is sentence and paragraph structure. Run on sentences is another. A way that i took to reduce my errors were reading my essay out loud and letting my peers read the essay and that lets me hear it aloud which shows where sentences and paragraphs could be broken up so it flows better. Early drafts of this paper were summaries and my later drafts show how I fixed the simple mistakes I was making. I am approaching mastery on this topic.
Engagement
I have never missed a single class. I am always participating in class to see where my ideas go and how my classmates can interpret them different. I constantly do my homework which is reflected in my journals and on time paper. All of my papers and assignments are within the accepted word count. In this topic I feel that I am basically mastering it. I might not be the best at everything in class, but I give my full effort every single time.
